Causes of Fertility Problems
In women, most issues are ovulation problems; the monthly release of an egg. Sometimes an egg is not released at all OR an egg is released in some cycles but not others.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Under/overactive thyroid gland
Premature ovarian failure
Scarring from surgery
Cervical mucus problems
Pelvic Inflammatory disease
Medicines and drugs (eg NSAIDs)
Neuroleptic medicines ( eg episodes of psychosis)
Spironalactone (used to treat fluid retention)
In the UK 25% of slow to conceive cases are unexplained
HOMEOPATHY LOOKS AT THE BIGGER PICTURE
All the women who have consulted me in the last six months did so for several reasons.
1. Failure of their medical treatment so far
2. Side-effects from their past medication
3. Desire to gain health levels required for natural conception
4. Reluctance to take invasive and/or chemical based medicine
5. Body BMI outside accepted levels for IVF
6. Named disorders following hospital tests and investigations
HOW CAN HOMEOPATHY HELP SOLVE THESE ISSUES?
By taking and recording case history from birth, ( I make a timeline so see what sort of things impacted on you and your life including family history of illness, including traumas, shock, grief, injuries, past medical or contraceptive history.)
Family dynamics, culture, belief systems, diet and lifestlye, social relationships.
Your relationships with the chief complaint. Energy; appetite; thirst; temperature; sleep; eliminations; menstrual cycle and energy levels
Mental/Emotional limitations and problems
Physical symptoms from top to toe
This is the way I will repertorise and then prescribe; its often a tailormade prescription and often includes vitamins and supplements.
Most commonly, the symptoms are not there at all, depending on the position within the uterus but should the fibroid be large there may be a sense of discomfort. The most common sign is menorrhagia or heavy periods with clots or flooding. Heavy bleeding is sometimes worse on second or third day. Congestion of nearby regions may produce colicky pains or dysmenorrhoea
with frequency of urination and there may also be delay in having a pee or a bowel movement from pressure blockages. Fibroids can cause recurrent miscarriages. Heavy periods may cause anaemia.
Unknown, but may relate to oestrogen activity, since they tend to increase in women on high oestrogen contraceptives as well as during pregnancy.
A fibroid (myoma) is the commonest simple growth of the uterus for fertile women. Not fibrous tissue, but entirely muscle cells and surounded by a fibrous capsule which encases it within the uterine wall. They may be single or multiple. Size varies considerably from a pea to a grapefruit. Common in 1:5 women over 35 having them in one form or another, especially those having not had kids.
They can be within the muscle wall of the uterus, the surface, the cavity of the uterus and beneath the lining endothelium. Rarely cancerous.
